What Is X-Travaganza?

More than a one-night-a-year annual dinner auction, X-Travaganza is a year-round series of fun events, raffles and auctions that collectively raise funds to benefit all St. Xavier students, with proceeds supporting academics, athletics and many other extracurricular activities.

That said -- the much anticipated, cornerstone X-Travaganza "main event" is an exciting and unforgettable evening attended by parents, alumni and other friends of St. Xavier High School. Each year a theme is selected to headline the event, which is held at the school each March and has become a perennial sell-out. Opening Party kicks off the weekend festivities on the Friday night before.

On Saturday evening, surrounded by X-ceptional decorations inspired by the theme, guests may participate in a variety of raffles while sampling hors d'oeuvres, drinks from the complimentary bar, and an elegant sit-down gourmet dinner. The Silent Auction is open throughout the evening and offers hundreds of unique items in a wide range of categories and values. Following dinner, the Live Auction is led by a professional auctioneer. With coveted tickets for sports and entertainment events, vacation stays, stunning jewelry, must-have “Bomber" items and unique items for St. X supporters of all ages, the Live Auction bidding electrifies the evening while bringing in funds benefiting all students with education opportunities.

How is X-Travaganza Planned?

With the Director and staff leading the effort, X-Travaganza is one of the most successful fund raising efforts of its kind that is primarily volunteer-driven. Each year, St. X parent couples are named as General Chairs, under whom various committees, each headed by a chairperson, are responsible for a part of the overall effort. Volunteers make up the body of each committee, lending their time and talents to such activities as soliciting or picking up auction donations; writing for the auction catalog; creating decorations; making calls; event set-up/clean-up - these are just some of the areas where volunteer help is vital. Anyone is welcome to volunteer. 

Besides helping to raise funds, X-Travaganza volunteers form a special camaraderie that is priceless. New parents to the school meet other parents. Parents who only attended their sons' activities now have a school activity of their own. Parents whose sons have already graduated remain connected to St. X. Alums help other young men have the same incomparable experience they had. The work is fun, the rewards are many.

Where do auction items come from?

Tax-deductible donations of tangible items, gift cards, vacation stays, services, cash, etc. are welcome from merchants and business firms, St. Xavier families, alumni and other friends. Many donations are collected at Gift Gathering parties, hosted by parents and organized by St. X sports and student activities, as well as by neighborhoods. The Live Auction and Donor Renewal committees solicit the hundreds of gifts needed to make the auctions successful.

Sponsorships at varying financial levels are available for the entire event and for the individual components. For individuals, many companies offer matching donations – check to see if your employer is one that will match your contribution.

How are reservations handled?

Invitations are mailed in January to current parents and those who attended past X-Travaganzas. Others interested in attending the event may contact the X-Travaganza office. Your paid reservation includes bar, hors d'oeuvres, a gourmet dinner and dessert.

What does X-Travaganza include?

X-Travaganza is more than a yearly dinner auction fundraiser -- it is a year-round series of events, raffles and online auctions that collectively raise funds to benefit St. Xavier students through educational programs and tuition assistance.

Proceeds from X-Travaganza benefit all St. Xavier students. From Academics, Athletics, Band, Blueprint, Mock Trial and X-men Chorus to Campus Ministry, Community Service and Mission Trips, every student benefits from your generosity!

Ladies Bunco Night is held on an autumn evening. Attendees enjoy food, drink, basket raffles, prizes and some spirited Bunco play!  Volunteers work on the planning committee or volunteer the night of the event.  Event volunteers help with set-up, check in, bar an clean-up.

Grand Raffle is a great chance to win one of three cash prizes: $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000. The winning ticket is drawn at X-Travaganza, but the winner need not be present to win. An early bird drawing of $1,000 takes place in February. This raffle is open to anyone and allows those living at a distance the chance to support X-Travaganza. All Grand Raffle proceeds are used solely for scholarships and tuition assistance.

The Holiday Online Auction offers items for bid by anyone registering to participate. Links to registration are found on the St. Xavier home page when available and here on the X-Travaganza page.

Opening Party, held the night before X-Travaganza, is less formal but offers its own brand of excitement with a large buffet dinner, bar, raffles (including last chance to purchase Grand Raffle tickets), Silent Auction and a sneak peek at the X-Travaganza decorations and auction displays.

Trivia Night is an informal, fun evening of games, food, beverages -- and more than a little competition -- as teams vie to be the top finisher.
