Community Service Classes
To help enable students to become “Men for Others," community service plays an integral role in certain classes at St. Xavier High School. Students who enroll in these classes will participate in service activities during their academic day.
American History: Christian Morality / Social Justice
In this course, students will learn both moral and historical themes that relate to social justice. During the first quarter, students will perform community service for two periods once a week at off-campus sites. This community service experience will be integrated into their study of history, morality and justice.
The community service programs are instrumental in providing the type of transformative experiences that are the hallmark of a Jesuit education. While developing relationships and serving those different than themselves, St. X students learn to appreciate the struggles of the poor and disenfranchised.
These volunteer experiences challenge students to examine their lives in terms of Christian justice – leading students to acknowledge their many blessings.
St. Xavier greatly values the time and energy that the students commit to this important program. Service activities are invaluable to the success of St. Xavier's mission of forming “Men for and with Others."
