The Bombers Cross Country team headed to Troy High School on Saturday afternoon for a cold, muddy OHSAA Division I Regional Championship meet. St. Xavier qualified for the meet after winning the OHSAA Div. I SW District Title last Saturday at Voice of America Park.
The Boys Division I Race was the final race of the day for all SW Ohio Regionals for both boys and girls which made for a muddy course after a full night of rain. Add the 46 degree temperatures in to the mix and it was a tough day to run but the Bombers fought through the conditions. They were led by senior Peter Dauenhauer as he finished in a time of 15:53.42 which was good for 4th place overall (3 team points). Next in for St. Xavier was senior Jack Hands who placed 22nd (17 points) in a time of 16:39.55 while his classmate Michael Holly finished 25th (20 points) in a time of 16:40.53. Freshman Nathan Mountain continued his strong running as he placed 30th overall (25 points) with a time of 16:45.14. Rounding out the top 5 for the Bombers was senior Jonathan Stansbury who ran a time of 16:47.49 for 33rd place (28 points). The other two finishers for St. Xavier were sophomore Tommy Walters finishing with a time of 17:09.83 which was 63rd overall (55 points) and junior Joe Doogan who finished 104th overall (92 points) with a time of 17:47.88.
St. Xavier needed to be in the Top 5 teams to qualify for the OHSAA Div. I State Championship Meet next Saturday. They finished with a team total of 93 points which was good for 3rd place finishing behind top finisher Mason who had 61 points and 2nd place finisher Centerville who scored 87 points.
