The Varsity Lacrosse Bombers headed to Dayton, OH on Wednesday night for the OHSAA Div. I State Semi Finals.  St. Xavier faced Worthington Kilbourne at Chaminade Julienne High School looking for their first trip to the State Final game since they won the title in 2015.  The Bombers entered the night with a 17-3 overall record and advanced to the Semi Finals with wins over Anderson (23-1), Lebanon (19-2), Loveland (17-8) and Moeller (17-5).  The Wolves entered with an 18-5 overall record and advanced with wins over Hilliard Bradley (18-2), Thomas Worthington (15-2), New Albany (7-2), and Upper Arlington (8-7).

St. Xavier came out and scored the first two goals of the game when senior GK Ross Wiseman made a clearing pass to wide open sophomore Noah Reidy who scored on an empty net to make it a 1-0 lead and then senior Duke Alf found a wide open classmate Johnny Marrocco who scored to make it 2-0 lead.  Kilbourne responded with a goal a couple of minutes later but St. Xavier scored the next 3 goals to take a 5-1 lead.  Senior John Holcomb (Marrocco assist) scored then senior Nick Shamsi scored (Alf assist), and Holcomb scored again unassisted.  The Wolves scored to make it 5-2 but the Bombers scored two more times before the end of the quarter when Shamsi scored on an Alf assist and Alf scored on a Holcomb assist to make it 7-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. 

The 2nd quarter was won by Worthington Kilbourne as they scored four goals to the Bombers' three goals to make it a 10-6 game at the half.  The Wolves scored the first goal of the quarter but senior Jack Kilfoil scored for St. Xavier to make it 8-3.  Kilbourne asnwered only 7 seconds later to make it 8-4.  Alf answered that goal with a goal for St. Xavier to make it 9-4 with 7:32 left in the half.  The Wolves scored with 3:23 left to make it 9-5 but the Bombers responded when senior Matthew Fox found Holcomb who scored his hat trick goal with 1:22 left to make it a 10-5 lead.  Kilbourne added a goal just before half to win the quarter.

The Bombers bounced back after halftime and shut the Wolves out in the 3rd quarter.  St. Xavier scored quickly when Shamsi scored his hat trick goal on a Kilfoil assist less than a minute into the quarter to make it 11-6.  Marrocco scored just over a minute later on a behind the back shot to make it 12-6.  About 4 minutes later, Marrocco scored his hat trick goal to make it 13-6 and then junior Trevor Gilmore scored on a Holcomb assist before the end of the quarter to make it 14-6.

The 4th quarter started with each team scoring with senior Chad Adair scoring for the Bombers first and the Wolves responding less than a minute later to make it a 15-7 game.  With 9:29 left in the final quarter, storms moved thru the Dayton area and the game went into a two hour and five minute delay at 8:25 pm.  Finally, at 10:30 pm the game was restarted and senior Ross Wiseman made a big save at the beginning of the restarted game.  Alf scored his hat trick goal on a Shamsi assist to make it 16-7 with 7:13 left in the game.  Kilbourne responded with a goal with 5:42 left to make it 16-8.  Holcomb scored his fourth goal of the game to make it 17-8 and then Marrocco scored on an empty net to seal the 18-8 victory.

With the win, the Bombers advance to the OHSAA Div. I State Final game on Saturday, June 2 at 7 pm at Ohio Weselyan University vs. Cleveland St. Ignatius.  The Wildcats advanced with a win over Dublin Coffman on Wednesday night by a score of 16-15 in overtime.  St. Xavier and St. Ignatius met twice during the regular season with the Bombers taking home two victories by identical scores of 12-11.
