The Varsity Hockey Bombers finished the regular season with a 15-7-4 overall record and finished 10-2-1 in the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League which placed them second behind undefeated Elder. The Bombers entered the postseason looking to defend their league title that they won last year. St. Xavier earned the second seed in the 2018 SWOHSHL Tournament and played the number five seeded Troy Trojans on Saturday night in the semi finals. Troy advanced with an upset win over fourth seeded Alter on Thursday night. The Bombers had a bye to the semi finals.
St. Xavier came out hot as senior Tyler Dellerman scored 3 of the first 4 goals of the game to get his hat trick early. Senior Kyle Archdeacon also scored to put the Bombers out ahead 4-0. Senior Jack Langenderfer scored the next two goals for St. Xavier to extend the lead to 6-0 before Troy got on the scoreboard to make it 6-1. Sophomore Max Boulton scored the final goal of the night to make it a 7-1 final.
Dellerman finished the night with 3 goals and 1 assist while Langenderfer finished with 2 goals and 3 assists. Boulton had 1 goal and 1 assist while Archdeacon finished with a goal and an assists as well. Freshman Trevor Tiemeyer finished with 2 assists. Seniors Aiden Krueger and Neil Keyser each had an assist as did freshman Nick Langenderfer.
With the win, St. Xavier will face Elder in the Finals of the SWOHSHL this evening at 6 pm. The Bombers will look to defend their title by avenging two regular season losses to the Panthers.
