The St. Xavier Athletic programs continue to be highly successful and it showed once again this year within the GCL South as the Bombers claimed the 2017-2018 GCL All Sports Trophy. It is the seventh straight school year that St. Xavier has claimed the trophy with Moeller winning it last in 2010-2011. The trophy is given to the school with the most points throughout the school year with 8 points given to 1st place in each sport, 6 points given to second place, 4 points given to third place and 2 points given to fourth place.
The standings were made final after Friday night when league play in Volleyball wrapped up and the GCL South Track and Field Championship Meet took place. The Bombers Volleyball team beat Moeller to claim 2nd place in the GCL South for the 6 points which ended up clinching the trophy. The Track and Field team also captured 2nd place and was awarded the 6 points as well. Moeller made it close as they captured first place in all Spring Sports, tying St. Xavier in Tennis, which gave them a total of 31 points. The Bombers claimed 25 points in the Spring with an additional 2nd place finish in Baseball and the aforementioned tie for 1st place in Tennis.
The final tally had St. Xavier with a total of 73 points, Moeller with 69 points, Elder with 54 points and LaSalle with 44 points.
The Bombers got off to a good start in the Fall as they claimed three 1st place finishes in Cross Country, Football and Golf while Soccer claimed 2nd place for a total of 30 points. Elder was the next closest in the Fall with 20 points while Moeller had 18 points and LaSalle finished with 12 points.
St. Xavier continued to keep the lead after the Winter sports as they claimed 1st place in Swimming and Diving, 3rd place in both Basketball and Bowling and 4th place in Wrestling. They finished with 18 points total in the Winter which was four back of Elder who finished with 22 points and two back of Moeller and LaSalle who finished with 20 points each.
