GESTELAND, ROBERT CHARLES Wilmington, NC - Robert Charles Gesteland PhD passed away June 30 in Wilmington, NC. Robert (Bob) was born July 1, 1930 in Madison WI. He received degrees in Electrical engineering from The University of Wisconsin <>-Madison, and a PhD from MIT in Neurophysiology. He served on the faculty of Northwestern University <> before moving to Cincinnati where he directed the interdisciplinary Neuroscience PhD program and served as associate Dean of the Medical college, then VP for research and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Cincinnati. He is remembered for his good humor and love for adventure, his keen physiological insights, his dedication to his graduate students, and for his love of family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Raymond Gesteland and Bernice Elver, and his beloved wife Jean Smitherman Gesteland. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Barton Gesteland, his children Matthew Gesteland, Wendy (Gerry) Lackey-Parents of Alumnus, and Caroline Gesteland, his 6 loving grandchildren (Reid G. Lackey-Class of 2016), his 2 brothers and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration will be held at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center at the University of Cincinnati, September 1, 4:00-7:00 pm.
