The Varsity Tennis team entered Saturday's GCL Tournament at Western Hills Tennis and Fitness Club looking for the program's 50th straight GCL Title.  They stood at first place in the GCL at 3-0 entering Saturday and looked to seal the title with a match against each school.

St. Xavier took on Moeller to start the day as the Crusaders seemed to give the Bombers the most competition during the regular season and entered 2-1 in league play.  Freshman Ronit Hiryur opened the day in 1st singles and took down senior Max Berky of Moeller by a score of 6-3, 6-1.  In 2nd singles, senior Peter Schulteis won 6-1, 6-2 for the Bombers over freshman Jacob Schwartz.  In 3rd singles, sophomore Max DeCurtins of St. Xavier beat junior Chase Gilbert by a score of 6-0, 6-0.  In 1st doubles, junior Joe Beischel and senior Cameron Geoppinger for the Bombers beat the Moeller team of senior Michael Keyser and sophomore Matthias Worthoff by a score of 6-1, 6-0.  In 2nd doubles, the sophomore team of Nick Aronoff and Dominic Pham for St. Xavier beat junior Sam Gurekovich and sophomore Nate Schepper in straight sets as well by a score of 6-2, 6-1.  With the 5-0 win, the Bombers improved to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in GCL.

St. Xavier took on LaSalle in Match #2 of the day. Schulteis won in 1st singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 over senior Orth for the Lancers. Geoppinger beat LaSalle junior Flynn by a score of 6-0, 6-2 in 2nd singles while Aronoff won in 3rd singles for the Bombers with a 6-0, 6-0 win over sophomore Gulasy.  In 1st doubles, DeCurtins and Beischel took down the LaSalle team of Barry-Towns by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and in 2nd doubles, Hagemeier and Pham won 6-0, 6-0 over Roell-Vogt for LaSalle.  St. Xavier beat the Lancers 5-0 to improve to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in the GCL.

The Bombers took on Elder in match #3 of the day.  St. Xavier won easily 3-0 as they did not finish two matches due to the 3 wins.  Hagemeier won in 2nd singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 while DeCurtins and Schulteis won in 1st doubles by a score of 6-1, 6-0 and Geoppinger-Pham won in 2nd doubles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 to seal the win.  With the win, St. Xavier improved to 6-0 in the GCL and sealed the 2017 GCL Championship to make it 50 straight for the program.

The Bombers have a busy week as they host Indian Hill on Monday, travel to CCD on Tuesday and play at Mason on Wednesday in the Regional Semi Finals of the OTCA Team Tournament.

On Thursday, the OHSAA Tournament starts with Div. I Sectional Tournament at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, OH.
