AQUABOMBERS CLAIM FIRST WIN
It was opening night at Keating Natatorium for St. Xavier as they faced Elder in the annual event. Elder, showing both quality and tremendous depth went toe to toe with the AquaBombers throughout the evening. Elder picked up five wins in the first nine events led by junior Austin Smith.
However, St. Xavier battled in every swim throwing down 93% best times. Ultimately, the AquaBombers pulled away in the final three events to capture a 158-127 win. “We knew the Panthers had some really good athletes and their depth was impressive”, commented Asst. Coach Don DiGiacomo. “The good news for us was that we were prepared and really raced well,“ DiGiacomo added.
The Blue and White was led by Junior Robert Prophrater who earned two individual victories, as well as leading off the top 400 Free relay, joined by Carter Dwyer (JR), Sean Hergenrother (JR) and Evan Schell (SO). All four went life time bests! To put the meet in perspective, seven of the eleven events had winning times faster than a year ago. “The sport keeps getting faster and we are pleased to be a part of the evolution,” concluded Coach Tim Beerman.
