The Varsity Soccer Bombers started the season with a three match win streak and narrowly lost to #1 State of Ohio ranked St. Ignatius 1-0 in the Jesuit Cup Finals. After that lost, the injured Bombers lost three straight but bounced back in a big way earlier in the week by beating the Moeller Crusaders 4-1 on Tuesday. On Saturday, they welcomed the #5 team in the State of Ohio to St. Xavier Stadium for a huge matchup. The Bombers played extremely well and sophomore Gino Geiser found the back of the net in the 1st half for the game's only goal and a 1-0 win. Junior GK Lucas Marshall got credited with the clean sheet in the big win. St. Xavier improved to 5-4-0 with win while Dublin Coffman suffered their first loss of the season to drop to 7-1-1.
St. Xavier travels to the Panther Athletic Complex to take on the Elder Panthers on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Bombers stand tied for 2nd in the GCL with a 1-1-0 league record while Elder is 2-4-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the GCL. Both teams have played LaSalle and Moeller with St. Xavier losing to LaSalle 1-0 and Elder losing 2-0. St. Xavier beat Moeller 4-1 while Elder lost 3-0. St. Xavier looks to win the GCL Championship for the 5th straight season as they still have to battle Elder twice, LaSalle once more and Moeller once more. LaSalle stands alone at the top with a 2-0-0 record.
The Bombers will also travel on Saturday to play at Mason High School in a matchup against the Comets. Mason is 6-0-1 this season and currently ranked #4 in the State of Ohio. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
