Varsity Lacrosse Falls in Regional Finals; Ends Season With 19-3 Record

The St. Xavier Bombers hosted the Loveland Tigers on Friday night in the 2016 OHSLA State Tournament Southwest Regional Finals.  In front of a big crowd at St. Xavier Stadium, the Tigers were up to the task against the #1 team in the state.  They won the opening face-off and scored 1:22 into the game to go ahead 1-0 early.  Senior Jacob Lang did not led the lead last long as he score for the Bombers about a minute later to make it a 1-1 game.  He scored again with 4:27 left in the quarter to give St. Xavier a 2-1 lead.  This time Loveland did not let the lead last long as they scored 16 seconds later to tie it back up at 2.  The 2nd quarter opened tied at 2 but St. Xavier scored quickly as Lang recorded the assist this time on a sophomore Duke Alf goal to put St. Xavier back ahead 3-2.  The Tigers hung tough and did not let the Bombers go on a scoring run and eventually tied the game back up with a goal with 6:39 left in the half.  They took the lead to the locker room when they scored again with :40 left to lead 4-3 at half.  The second half was a defensive battle as neither team could score in the 3rd quarter until St. Xavier found the back of the cage with another goal from Lang to make it a 4-4 game going to the last quarter.  Loveland scored with 4:22 remaining to go up 5-4 but senior George Thurner did not let the game end there when he scored with only :30 left to send the game to overtime with a 5-5 score.  Each team held each other scoreless in both overtime number one and two.  Loveland scored in the 3rd overtime to win the game 6-5 to move on to the Final Four.

St. Xavier's season ended with the loss.  The Bombers finished the season with a 19-3 overall record and many accomplishments on the season.  They beat top teams in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Pennsylvania while garnering many individual awards listed below.
