The St. Xavier Cross Country team looked to keep their positive momentum going at National Trails Raceway in Hebron, OH on Saturday in the OHSAA State Championship meet. The Bombers won the GCL Championship, won their OHSAA District Championship race and ran as runners-up at the OHSAA Regional Meet. St. Xavier knew that the top competition in the State would pose a big challenge for them but were excited for the opportunity to run against those teams with a young team.
Senior Austin Angeline led St. Xavier in his last race as a Bombers by finishing in 44th place overall with a time of 16:11.3 scoring 23 points. He was followed up by junior teammate Chris Reischel in 54th place with a time of 16:17.7 scoring 28 points. Sophomore Jonathan Stansbury ran a 16:28.9 to finish in 73rd place scoring 44 points with junior teammate Liam McGrath right behind in 80th place with a 16:32.7 scoring 51 points. Sophomore Peter Dauenhauer rounded out the Bombers scoring with 59 points finishing 90th overall with a time of 16:38.3. Junior Will Morgan finished 103rd overall with sophomore Michael Holly finishing in 120th place overall. St. Xavier's 205 points was good enough for an 8th place finish out of 16 teams. Cleveland St. Ignatius claimed the State Championship with a team score of 66 knocking off defending State Champion, Mason HS, who finished with 96 total points.
The young St. Xavier team will look forward to next season as they build on the experience gained this season. The senior class this year goes out as one of the most successful classes in school history as they won the GCL Championship all 4 years.
