The Varsity Cross Country team completed a great regular season by winning their 5th straight GCL Title two weeks ago and looked to carry that momentum into the OHSAA District Meet on Saturday. The Bombers were placed in the 2nd of 2 District races which put them up against GCL rival LaSalle who they beat by 2 points at the GCL race.
St. Xavier's top runners beat out the Lancers' top runners at the District Meet with junior Chris Reischel placing 2nd with a time of 16:04.8 and senior Austin Angeline placing 3rd with a time of 16:07.8. Sophomore Jonathan Stansbury ran in 8th place for the Bombers with a time of 16:24.4 with junior teammate Will Morgan finishing 10th with a time of 16:31.2. Sophomore Peter Dauenhauer rounded out the scoring for the Bombers by finishing 13th with a time of 16:37.6. The Bombers' total of 36 points gave them the win with LaSalle finishing 2nd place with 54 points, Lakota East in 3rd place with 75 points and Oak Hills in 4th place with 102 points as the top 4 adavance to the Regional Championship Meet next week at Troy High School. Other finishers for the Bombers included junior Liam McGrath (15th) and sophomore Michael Holly (28th).
St. Xavier will look to qualify for the State Championship Meet next Saturday, October 31st at Troy High School. The race will start at 3:00 pm with 16 schools competing for 4 spots at the State Championship meet on Saturday, November 7th at National Trails Raceway.
