The 2015 St. Xavier Varsity golf team came into the season as one of the deepest teams in school history as 11 players played during the GCL season in the top 5. The competition within the team is what made this team so tough to beat. Coach Alex Kepley, GCL Coach of the Year, knew that come OHSAA Tournament time that he would be faced with a hard decision on the top 5 plus an alternate. His decision of seniors Domenic Maricocchi and Kirran Magowan, juniors Zachary Pavlin and Joey McCarthy (alternate) and sophomores Cameron Frazier and Michael Prebles it showed to be the right one after Sectionals and Districts as the team placed 1st at both tournaments. It was also looking good after the 1st day of the State Tournament as St. Xavier dominated the field by firing a 303 with second place Springboro at 313 and third place Dublin Jerome at 316. The Bombers knew their work was cut out for them in the final 18 holes of the season if they wanted to claim the State of Ohio's top spot.
The lineup on day 2 of the State Tournament had to be kept the same therefore junior Zach Pavlin was in the 5 spot, sophomores Cameron Frazier and Michael Prebles were in the 4 and 3 spots, respectively, with the seniors anchoring the squad with Kirran Magowan and Domenic Maricocchi in spots 2 and 1, respectively. St. Xavier did not play as well on the front nine as the day before and Springboro and Dublin Jerome took advantage. Dublin Jerome fired a 153 on the front nine with Springboro carding a 155 while the Bombers put up 161, therefore, only leading Springboro by 4 and Dublin Jerome by 5 heading into the back nine. However, the Bombers made sure they kept their focus and with some members of the 2008 State Championship Team in attendance they made sure to seal their victory. Pavlin turned in a score of 80 to go with his 77 from Friday for a tournament total of 157. Frazier finished with 83 to go with his 75 from Friday for a total of 158. Prebles improved on his 80 from Friday with a 78 to total a 158 as well for the 2 days. Magowan shined on the last day by firing an even par 72 with a birdie on the last hole to go with his 82 from Friday for a total of 154 to lead St. Xavier over the 2 days. Maricocchi, who had a team low 71 on Friday, carded an 84 on Saturday for a 2 day total of 155. The Bombers' consistency led to a team total of 313 on Saturday to go with their 303 on Friday for a total of 616. It looked as though Dublin Jerome might overtake the Bombers but they turned in a great 305 on Saturday and with their 316 on Friday they came in second with a total of 621.
St. Xavier claimed their 4th OHSAA State Golf Championship and the school's 50th State Title Overall making St. Xavier the first Ohio school to reach 50 State Titles. The Bombers completed their season as GCL Champions, Sectional Champions, District Champions, and State Champions. They lost only 1 head to head dual matches and did not finish any lower than 6th place in tournaments.
