The St. Xavier Varsity Cross Country team had a lot to live up to going into the GCL South Championship Meet on Saturday at the Bruin Course in Mason, OH as they were the defending 4 time champions and were looking to keep that streak alive. A fifth straight title would give St. Xavier the longest streak ever by a GCL South school. The Bombers did not disappoint as senior Austin Angeline came in 2nd place with a time of 16:05.8 and junior Chris Reischel finished in 4th place with a time of 16:16.5. Sophomore Jonathan Stansbury was right behind in 5th place with a 16:20.0 time. Junior Will Morgan finished in 8th place with a 16:31.5 time while sophomore Peter Dauenhauer finished in 10th place with a 16:43.7 to round out the 29 points for the Bombers. The Lancers of LaSalle finished 1-3-6-9-12 to finish just behind St. Xavier with 31 points giving the Bombers their record setting 5th straight GCL Title. Other finishers for the Bombers included junior Liam McGrath in 11th place and freshman Tyler Powell in 15th place. Elder finished in 3rd place with 78 points and Moeller rounded out the 4 GCL South schools with 100 points.
The Bombers will look to build off of their GCL Championship when they head to Voice of America Park on Saturday, October 24th to run in the OHSAA Division 1 District Meet at 10:00 am. They will look to finish as one of the top 4 teams to advance to the Regional meet on Saturday, October 31st at Troy High School.
The St. Xavier JV team finished 1st in the JV GCL South Championship race with a total of 20 points while the Bombers' Freshman won the Freshman GCL South Championship race with a perfect total of 15 to complete the St. Xavier sweep of the GCL South.
