Volleyball Advances to State Finals Weekend in Columbus
The Bombers Volleyball team looked for another win on Saturday evening at McNicholas HS against Oak Hills in the OHSBVA State Tournament after defeating Princeton on Thursday night to advance to the Regional Finals.  The match against Oak Hills was a re-match of a regular season match where St. Xavier won 3 sets to 0.  The Bombers continued their winning ways by posting a 25-22 1st set win.  St. Xavier kept the pressure on and dominated the 2nd set posting a 25-11 win.  The 3rd set was much like the 1st set and remained close but St. Xavier pulled out a 25-22 win and won the match 3 sets to 0 to advance to Columbus for the State Finals weekend.  St. Xavier was led by seniors Patrick Beer who recorded 32 assists, 3 digs and 4 kills and Eric Spoelker with 7 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces.  Senior Nick Talbot, GCL Player of the Year, contributed 8 kills and 6 digs while junior Evan Bretl recorded 7 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks. The Bombers will face Hilliard Darby in the State Quarterfinals at 11:45 am on Saturday, May 30th at Capital University in Columbus.  If they win on Saturday they would advance to the State Semi Finals scheduled for 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 31st at Capital University.  With the win against Oak Hills, St. Xavier remains ranked #1 in the State of Ohio and improves to 19-1 overall.
