| John Zink, current AquaBomber Assistant coach and father of Adam Zink '14, has written a historical fiction trilogy set in Cincinnati. Queen of the West (Book One) introduces Max, the son of a German Over-the-Rhine immigrant, who attends St. Xavier College, grows a business and becomes a city council leader. He meets Annie, a burgeoning feminist and romance ensues. In Queen of the Union (Book Two), Max wrestles with the morality of the Civil War. As the Confederate army advances on Cincinnati, he must defend his hometown and the soul of the nation. Book Three (available this fall) concludes the saga amidst the turbulence of Reconstruction. They're filled with local historical references and landmarks—an entertaining way to learn some Cincinnati history! Books are available at Joseph-Beth Booksellers or Amazon.com. |

Community Service: Senior Spotlight – Andrew Molinsky '23 Over the last four years, I've done a good amount of community service. My freshman year, my brother (who was a senior and my ride) took me to two weekly afterschool services at elementary schools. I would help kids with their homework and play games. I did struggle helping them with their homework sometimes – either I wasn't good at explaining things or wasn't good at keeping their attention. As I got older, I kept going to service and started leading my service team to Winton Hills Academy on Thursdays. Being a leader, I felt a sense of accountability and really jumped in more than I had before. I would help manage the St. X guys when we arrived and encourage them to attend. Now that I had more experience, I was able to find the balance of having fun and still having them listen to me when we needed to stay on task. Because of afterschool service, Big Brothers, leading the Canned Food Drive and my Service & Immersion Trip, I really learned how to work together with others – not just my peers, but also the people I wanted to serve. If I could have made any impact on X, I hope that I motivated others to find the growth that can come through service |
