St. Xavier Ignatian Global Scholar Program

The St. Xavier Ignatian Global Scholars Program (IGS) is an academic and co-curricular program which creates opportunities for students to engage in ongoing experiences with a global dimension. Bestowed by St. X and the Jesuit Schools Network, the distinction honors a student’s growth in Ignatian Global Citizenship.

Global Citizenship: An Ignatian Definition

Global Citizens are those who continuously seek to deepen their awareness of their place and responsibility in an increasingly interconnected world, both locally and globally; those who stand in solidarity with others in the pursuit of a sustainable earth and a more humane world as true companions in the mission of reconciliation and justice.

Ignatian Global Scholars graduate from St. X equipped to give greater glory to God, as people for and with others and as 21st century leaders prepared to engage with a complex and interconnected world.

IGS candidates fulfill various requirements, but the program is flexible to adapt to students’ needs and interests. Academic coursework, global events, intercultural experiences, service, projects, and reflections are all components of the program. Mrs. Therese Bower, Global Education Coordinator, works closely with IGS candidates to ensure that program requirements are met. A minimum of 2 years is mandatory for student participation. A semester-long global education foundation course, Global Perspectives, is required of all IGS candidates and is taken in the sophomore or junior year. This video provides more information about the course. Having met all program requirements, the graduating senior will be recognized on his transcript as an Ignatian Global Scholar, will be awarded the St. Xavier/Jesuit Schools Network Global Scholar Certificate at the Academic Awards Ceremony, and will be recognized as a St. Xavier Global Scholar in the graduation program.

Students should contact Mrs. Bower at tbower@stxavier.org to learn about the application process and program timeline. An overview of program requirements can be found below.
