St. X celebrates Native American Heritage Month!
November is Native American Heritage Month, which celebrates the cultures, accomplishments, and contributions the original peoples of this land and the attributes that make them unique within the fabric of a diverse American society. What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions The First Americans made to the establishment and growth of the U.S., has resulted in a whole month being designated for that purpose.
In our region the Miami Tribe were removed from the area over 175 years ago. Their forced relocation of 1846 led them to Indiana. They would later be relocated permanently to Oklahoma where their reservation still is today, which is over 650 miles away from their homeland. We encourage you to learn more about Native American culture and our connection through the land we now call Greater Cincinnati.
