Martinez brothers

Seniors Joel & Johan Martinez are twins and leaders on the St. Xavier High School wrestling team. The young men were born in the United States and their parents are from the Dominican Republic. Growing up they were highly influenced by their relatives' love of baseball, but together they decided to go against the norm and try a new sport. They are forces on the mat and are both currently undefeated. They wrestle in the 182 & 195 lbs weight classes respectively. Although they physically dominate their opponents on the mat, off the mat the exemplify what it means to be a St. Xavier student. Besides their athletic gifts, they both break stereotypes by participating in our strings program, playing the violin and the viola, and they are both academically gifted earning very high scores on the ACT. Members of the National Honors Society, they also volunteer all summer at a STEM camp. They have embraced what it means to be yourself and belong in the St. Xavier community. Possibly the best thing about both of these young men is that, despite the fact they are extremely busy with wrestling, string, and academics, they both always come to school with a smile and a pleasant disposition.
