Bombers Win Domino’s Pizza Holiday Tournament

By Freshman Basketball SSID James Heskett 15’

The St. Xavier Freshman Basketball Team received another win Friday night when they defeated the Springboro Panthers in the Domino’s Pizza Holiday Tournament. A strong defensive showing by the Bombers earned them their ninth win on the season.

In the first quarter the Bombers got off to a strong start. A man-to-man full court press by St. Xavier proved to be quite effective, giving the Bombers a quick 5-0 lead early. Joe Ruwe provided four of St. Xavier’s nine points in the first quarter. At the end of one, St. X led 9-4. Josh Theis started the second quarter with a steal and lay-up, giving the Bombers an 11-4 lead. Additionally, Alex Caldwell found his touch in the second providing two baskets for St. X. At the end of two, St. Xavier led 20-11.

Throughout the third quarter the Bombers played a full court man press, which led to turnovers. Jonathon Deifel had five points in the quarter as the Bombers began to pull away. By the end of the third quarter, St. Xavier held command 33-17. In the fourth quarter, Springboro was unable to make a run. The Bombers finished the championship game winning 44-24.

This Monday, January 2rd, the Bombers will be back in action at home against the Mason Comets. Come cheer on the Bombers at 11:00 a.m. as they look forward to another solid performance.
