Welcome from the President
Dear Friends of St. Xavier,
Welcome to the online home of St. Xavier High School, www.stxavier.org. St. X is the Jesuit college preparatory school in Cincinnati, one of four Jesuit high schools in Ohio and one of a network of 54 Jesuit high schools across the country. Since 1831, we have been educating young men to be Christian leaders and men for others.
As I enter my second year as
president of St. Xavier, I feel closer to this large and supportive community and look forward to the ongoing work of maintaining the school’s long-standing tradition of excellence. Be it in academics, service, arts or athletics, we have much to be proud of and much to celebrate. Yet, as human beings - particularly teen boys - we are far from perfect. The work continues every day and our efforts to educate the whole person and graduate men for others are always evolving. What reliable methods can we mix with innovations and bring them to the table for these young men who will do God's work the world over? Jesuit founder St. Ignatius Loyola’s life was dedicated to his companions. Our patron St. Francis Xavier was prominent among them. They were generous people who offered their gifts and commitment to what has become one of the largest missionary efforts of all time. As Jesuits in the 21st century, our companions in this endeavor include our students, faculty, administrators, staff, parents, trustees, alumni and friends.
We join forces to help young men grow into the profile of the Graduate at Graduation: young men who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving and committed to doing justice. We expect them to strive for these ideals not only during their four years here, but for life. We want them prepared to effect positive change in their local and global communities.
A St. X education extends beyond the traditional classroom and occurs on the athletic fields, on the stage, in the studio. It reaches into local parishes, retreat houses and experience days. It wends its way into impoverished communities as close as downtown Cincinnati and as far away as Peru. This education, as I’ve said, lasts a lifetime and reflects the ever-greater glory of God.
Whether you are a graduate, parent or someone interested in learning more about the school, once again I thank you for visiting this site. I further invite you to visit the campus in person, to see our state-of-the art facilities, to meet our faculty and staff, to share in the enthusiasm of more than 1,500 boys walking these halls.
In Christ,
Fr. Timothy A. Howe S.J.
