Varsity Swimming Wins Mason Invitational
Posted 12/04/2017 01:33PM

In what has become one of the largest early season meets in the area, the AquaBombers stepped up big time. The Mason Invitational featured 27 schools and over 300 student athletes on Saturday in a prelim/final format. After a grueling 12+ hour day, the men of St. X headed home with the Championship trophy and a whole lot more.

The AquaBombers were represented by an extremely young team featuring eleven underclassmen of the 13 on the roster. But it was a case of “youth must be served“, as the team racked up 431.5 points to outpace Mason (254) and Akron Firestone (247) for the top three spots.

Performer of the Meet freshman Nathan Wall picked up 3 wins (200 Free, 500 Free, 400 Free Relay). He was joined by Scott Holcomb (SR) and Cameron Jones (SO) with individual wins. Holcomb’s win came with a record breaking performance in the 100 Free (48.40) and Jones was on top in the 100 Breast. Nathan Wall was joined on the relay by Kellen Roddy (SO), Owen Taylor (FR) and Jamie Donovan (SO) in establishing a new record in the final event of the day (3:23.21). The highest quality depth was exemplified by five runners up finishes.
