The St. Xavier Varsity Soccer team had a home match against a struggling Elder Panthers team on Tuesday night. The Bombers were lead defensively by, Josh Besl, Bailey Lach, Will Bronsil, and goal keeper Lucas Marshall. Marshall saved 2 headers from the panthers at 14:26 and 9:40 in the first half. The bombers were able to keep the panthers scoreless in the first half. Will Watkins had two close offensive chances at 12:55 and 28 seconds in the first half, but both were stopped by the elder keeper. At the end of the first half the game was still scoreless.
The Bombers got off to a hot start in the second half with Will Watkins’ goal coming at 38:15 with the assist coming from Nick Meyer. At 32:43 Craig Wellens had a shot on goal that just missed wide left of the goal. Watkins also had a shot on goal at 27:23 that was stopped. At 23:30 the panthers had a corner kick and a shot on goal which was stopped by Marshall, however the rebound was headed in to tie the game at 1. At 18:57 the panthers had another scoring opportunity but it was stopped by Adam Arar before it could reach the goalie. Besl sailed a shot just over the net that would’ve put the Bombers ahead by one with 8:44 left to play. With 1:11 to play Arar had a header that was stopped by the keeper.
The 2-3-3 (0-1-1 in league play) Varsity Soccer Bombers will look to improve on their season as they take on the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks in Columbus this Saturday, September 16th.
