The Varsity Golf team looked to keep their hot streak going as they opened play at the 2017 Kiely Cup at Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland, OH on Sunday.  The Bombers won the 2016 Kiely Cup and looked to repeat as champions this year.  The event is a 36 hole event with play starting Sunday afternoon and finishing on Monday on the Par 72 course.

St. Xavier was led by seniors George Mitchell and Michael Prebles who both carded rounds of 75 on Sunday.  They were followed up by junior Oscar Zimmerman who shot a 1st round of 79.  Senior Garrett Madden rounded out the 1st round team total of 310 with a score of 81.  Senior Cameron Frazier turned in the 5th score of 84.  The Bombers found themselves 3 shots out of the lead which was held by Dublin Jerome with a 307 on Sunday.

Monday was a much different story for St. Xavier as they were led by Frazier and Zimmerman who both shot a 1 over par, 73.  Madden followed it up with a 74 while Mitchell fired a 79.  The 299 team total for Monday was good enough to propel them to the title as Dublin Jerome shot a team total of 312 to drop them 10 shots behind in 2nd place.  St. Xavier's 2 day total of 608 was the same score they won with last year which set the all time record for low team score in the event.  The Bombers become the first team to win the event back to back since 2009 when University School won it in 2008 & 2009.

Another Varsity Golf team headed to the Alter HS Invitational at Miami Valley Golf Club in Dayton, OH on Monday morning.  St. Xavier claimed another title as senior Davis Lipp led the Bombers with an even par round of 71 which won him medalist honors.  St. Xavier shot a team total of 304 as senior Daniel Hogan shot 75, sophomore Jared DeVille shot 78 and sophomore Hank Thomas shot 80 to round out the scoring for the Bombers behind Lipp's 71.

This is the 2nd of 3 days in which the Bombers claimed two first place finishes on the same day.  On Saturday, St. Xavier took home the Van Buren Blacknight Classic title and the St. Charles Invitational title as well. They stay busy with multiple dual matches on Tuesday, the Springfield Invitational on Wednesday and a Tri Match vs. Ryle and Cov Cath on Thursday.
