St. Xavier 19 Dublin Coffman 11
The Bombers looked to keep their scoring momentum going as they were coming off an 18 goal performance at Elder when they took on Dublin Coffman at St. Xavier Stadium on Saturday. It was a back and forth game for much of the first half. After St. Xavier jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from sophomore Trevor Gilmore (1st career varsity goal) and junior Johnny Marrocco, the Shamrocks responded quickly with two goals of their own to make it 2-2. Marrocco scored again with 4:57 left in the quarter but Dublin Coffman scored to tie it at 3 with 2:35 left and that is how the quarter ended.
The Shamrocks scored the first goal of the 2nd quarter to take their first lead of the game at 4-3 but this time it was the Bombers' turn to respond quickly and they did just that. Junior Duke Alf scored a goal with a shot from behind his back on an assist from Marrocco to tie it at 4 and senior Josh Glaser fired in a laser shot to give St. Xavier the lead back at 5-4. Once again, Coffman tied it up with a goal on a man up advantage with 8:47 left in the half but Glaser scored 40 seconds later for the Bombers to give St. Xavier the lead back at 6-5 with 8:07 left in the half. Gilmore assisted on Glaser's goal. The Shamrocks did it once again with a goal of their own to tie it at 6 but the Bombers went on a scoring run as they scored four unanswered goals. It started when Alf scored on a Marrocco assist with 6:40 left in the half then Gilmore scored for his hat trick on the night on an assist from Alf to make it 8-6 with 6:21 left. 41 seconds later, junior Jack Kilfoil rattled the back of the cage to make it 9-6. Alf completed his hat trick with a goal with 3:00 left in the half to cap the scoring run and make it 10-6. Both teams scored a goal before the half with Alf scoring his 4th goal of the game on an assist from senior Caleb Anderson to make it a Bombers' lead of 11-7 at the half.
Alf and Marrocco each scored to open the 2nd half and extend the St. Xavier lead to 13-7 giving Marrocco a hat trick on the game as well. After the Shamrocks scored to make it 13-8, the Bombers scored 3 straight goals coming from Anderson (Alf assist), Kilfoil, and Gilmore who recorded his 4th goal of the night to make it 16-8. Marrocco scored once again and St. Xavier held a 17-9 advantage at the end of 3 quarters. Each team scored twice in the last quarter with the Bombers' goals coming from Marrocco, his fifth of the night, and Alf, his seventh of the night, to seal the 19-11 victory.
