St. Xavier High School is pleased to announce Ray Heyob as the new Head Coach for the Bombers Rugby team. Heyob has been an assistant coach in the St. Xavier Rugby program for four of the team’s six years as a sport at the school.
Heyob is teacher in the Computer Science Department at St. Xavier High School and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Master’s degree from Xavier University. He was a two-year captain of the University of Cincinnati Rugby team and has several years experience playing with the Queen City Rugby Club.
“St. Xavier Rugby has come a long way as a school sport and plays a competitive schedule against nationally ranked opponents,” Coach Heyob explains. “The sport is the fastest growing in the US and provides another athletic option to develop Bomber athletes. I look forward to more success on the pitch and team contributions to the St. Xavier community off the pitch.”
St. Xavier Athletic Director John Sullivan said, “We thank John Spencer for his years of service. As the Rugby program continues to develop, we are excited about Coach Heyob’s leadership and direction as he takes over the program.”
