Everywhere you looked it was glamour – red carpets, Oscar statues, jewels, beautiful women in fabulous gowns and debonair tuxedos– taking St. Xavier X-Travaganza guests to a place where dreams come true – Hollywood.
St. Xavier’s 44th Annual X-Travaganza weekend kicked off on Friday with the Opening Night “Reel Party”. Chairs Christine and David Dauenhauer and Julie and Gary Shipley welcomed guests to the popcorn and movie poster-decorated Berning Gym. Silent Auction items lined the walls for bidding and the delicious Lenten Buffet included treats that even Hollywood actresses would not have been able to resist. The St. Xavier Marching Bombers’ Drumline entertained the crowd as guests chose which baskets to drop their raffle tickets into and which Silent Auction items on which to bid. Parents of the Freshmen Class of 2021 were also in attendance and were welcomed to the St. X community by Fr. Howe and Principal Terry Tyrrell. They reiterated St. X’s commitment to the incoming freshman class and reinforced the importance of the summer study skills classes as well as their sons’ getting involved in the numerous activities available at St. X.
On Saturday night X-Travaganza Chairs Lynne and Tom Donnelley and Shannon and Mike Grause rolled out the red carpet to welcome guests to Hollywood Nights in the Ellis Gym. Guests mingled, while enjoying Beverly Hills bubbly champagne with raspberries in St. X monogrammed glasses and many delicious hors d’oeuvres being passed around, and browsed and bid on the 600+ Silent Auction items.
As dinner time approached Fr. Howe led the Gala in prayer and - after a few words from X-Travaganza Director Cathy Cionni - the Grand Raffle Winners were drawn for the $5,000, $10,000 and $20,000 prizes.
While a gourmet dinner was being served to guests, the Live Auction kicked off with auctioneer, Mr. Lance Walker, as the Emcee. Live Auction packages included trips to Paris and LA, a concert suite to Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Chicago Cubs rooftop tickets, Harlow and Tillie, the X-Trav puppies as well as golf packages and Hamilton Broadway tickets and many, many other fantastic auction items.
The entire X-Travaganza weekend was an amazing accomplishment! Thank you to our extraordinary X-Travaganza Director Cathy Cionni, her entire team of hard-working staff and volunteers including Jane Bretl, Heidi O’Connor and Jeanne Schneider, ‘Reel Party’ Opening Chairs Christine and David Dauenhauer and Julie and Gary Shipley and ‘Hollywood Nights’ Gala Chairs Lynne and Tom Donnelley and Shannon and Mike Grause, whose countless hours and talents ensured this year’s ‘X-Travaganza would be the success it was!
